Funeral

When a loved one has died the pastoral leaders and parish staff are here to help you with the details of planning the funeral and burial. We work with the funeral home and the family to help the family at this time of grief. To secure the church for a funeral please call Fr. Dennis Labat at 507-723-4141. Once the date and time has been established then a planning meeting can be set up, usually with the priest and the funeral home.

At this meeting Father Labat will talk about the parish prayer service, planning the funeral Mass, and other details of preparing for the funeral. He will have some materials to give the family to help them in planning for the funeral Mass – picking scripture readings and hymns. This is also the time to talk about family members or friends to do the readings, bring up the gifts, be pallbearers, or placing the pall on the casket.

St. Raphael parish also offers a lunch after each funeral. The women of the Council of Catholic Women provide salad and cake and set up, serve and cleanup afterwards. The funeral director works with the family in reviewing the meal options with the family.
